Neurosurgeon
The résumé of Prof. Dr. Kita Sallabanda, recently appointed President of the European Society of Neurosurgery, is a dazzling journey through the vast field of neurosurgery and radiosurgery, a journey that began in the 1980s and continues to this day. He is a world-renowned authority in this field.
His research has earned him awards such as the prize for “A Comparison of Ventriculoperitoneal and Lumboperitoneal Shunts in Normotensive Hydrocephalus (NHT) in Adults,” which was recognized as the best paper presented at the conference.
He is also the author of the book “Radiosurgery: Fundamentals, Technological Advances, Indications, and Results,” published in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid. The book, now in its second edition, features contributions from numerous professionals in addition to his own and is an essential text in the field.
Regarding his educational and teaching work, Prof. Dr. Sallabanda has served as Director of the Master’s Program in Radiosurgery of the Central Nervous System at the Complutense University of Madrid for the sixth consecutive year (2017–2023), as well as Director of the SENEC School of Radiosurgery, and holds the position of President of the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery.
In addition, in 2023, he directed the second edition of the “School of Radiosurgery” course, held in March in Granada, in collaboration with SENEC, the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery. His awards and recognition extend beyond the professional sphere. He holds the Gold Medal from the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain and the Commendation of the Order of Civil Merit. For some time, he also served as Spain’s Consul in Tirana.
In 2023, he was unanimously elected president of the SRS section of the EANS, the European Association of Radiosurgery. 
Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Morena Sallabanda is a radiation oncologist at IRCA and also works at the Quirón Salud Proton Therapy Center.
He studied medicine and surgery in Madrid at the Complutense University of Madrid and the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital, earning his doctorate in 2021 after completing a dissertation based on five years of research.
During that time, he also completed a master’s degree in radiosurgery, and over the years he has gone on to contribute his expertise and serve as an instructor in the program.
He has extensive experience as a physician specializing in radiation oncology, having held this position at Genesis Care in leading hospitals such as Hospital la Milagrosa in Madrid and the CyberKnife Unit in Madrid.
She completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda.
His experience abroad includes proton therapy at the Penn Medicine Health System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
